Public League postpones sports until 2021

Will leagues cancel sports this fall? As of right now, only in the Pub.

The Public League announced Monday it will follow Gov. Tom Wolf’s recommendations and postpone all sports until January because of coronavirus concerns. It comes three days after the PIAA announced it would postpone the start of sports for two weeks.

Sports shut down across the country last year. In Pennsylvania, it disrupted the state basketball tournaments and completely washed out the spring season.

Today was scheduled to be the first official day of football practice for teams in the PIAA. The organization will announce next week its decision on the fate of fall sports.

Simply the best: Tyreek Chappell led Northeast to a Public League football championship. He won’t have a chance to do it this year. TIMES FILE PHOTO
